FireWorks Gallery is pleased to present two diverse exhibitions showcasing significant contemporary and Indigenous Australian art. In the ground floor gallery, FIRE! Works on Paper #1 brings together works by celebrated artists Rover Thomas, Tommy Watson, Jennifer Herd and Milan Milojevic. Featuring a broad range of printmaking practices in both monochrome and colour; including screenprint, etching and archival inkjet printing, the exhibition highlights the versatility and accessibility of works on paper.
The exhibition places two legendary late desert painters, Rover Thomas and Tommy Watson, alongside acclaimed urban Indigenous artist Jennifer Herd and Tasmanian-based artist Milan Milojevic, creating a compelling dialogue across geographies and artistic approaches.
Limited edition digital prints by Tommy Watson retain the extraordinary vibrancy, rhythm and energy of his celebrated paintings while offering collectors a more intimate and affordable format suited to domestic spaces. This colourful punch is contrasted with one of the highlights of the exhibition, Rover Thomas’ highly collectable Mt Newman etching, a striking example of the artist’s powerful visual language working in Darwin translated into print.
Jennifer Herd’s screenprints are deeply political, exploring themes of resistance, identity and cultural memory. Also included in the exhibition is one of Herd’s signature works featuring her distinctive pinhole shield motif.
Milan Milojevic’s digitally collaged works draw from his vast and intensely colourful archive of flora, fauna, landscapes and figures. Blending humour, absurdity and personal symbolism, his works reflect on identity and his own cross-cultural experience as a first-generation Australian.
Together, FIRE! Works on Paper #1 demonstrates how works on paper can offer collectors an accessible entry point into significant contemporary art practices without compromising artistic impact.
In the mezzanine gallery, Across their Lands (series1 and 2) presents rotating exhibitions blending primary and secondary market works. This includes a selection of gallery ‘favourites’, collectable opportunities and unexpected discoveries from leading artists working in the Northern Territory, Queensland and Western Australia.
This first iteration of this series features newly attained works by esteemed artists Emily Kame Kngwarreye; Ronnie Tjampitjinpa, Roma Nyutjangka Butler and Lorna Naparrula Fencer, alongside non Indigenous artists Rod Moss, David Paulson and Yvonne Mills-Stanley Stanley. Across their Lands (series 1 and 2) promises a dynamic and evolving exhibition format continuing until 10 October.
