FIRE! Works on Paper 1
Works on paper occupy a unique position within contemporary art practice. They offer artists an opportunity to experiment with process, scale and materiality while providing collectors with an accessible pathway into significant artistic careers. At FireWorks Gallery, this commitment to works on paper is reflected in our dedicated Works on Paper Room, which presents a continually evolving selection of prints and editions by leading Australian and international artists. FIRE! Works on Paper #1 draws together a small selection from this broader offering, showcasing the remarkable diversity and creative potential of the medium. The exhibition brings together works by celebrated artists Rover Thomas, Tommy Watson, Jennifer Herd and Milan Milojevic. Spanning screenprinting, etching, archival inkjet printing and digital collage, the exhibition highlights the extraordinary range of techniques that fall within the category of works on paper. From richly layered monochrome prints to vibrant colour editions, each work demonstrates how different printing processes can transform an artist’s visual language while retaining the power and integrity of the original practice. A compelling dialogue emerges between two legendary late desert painters, Rover Thomas and Tommy Watson, and the contemporary voices of urban Indigenous artist Jennifer Herd and Tasmanian-based artist Milan Milojevic. While their artistic concerns differ greatly, each artist embraces the printed medium as a vehicle for storytelling.
