Pelican Hole (Bow River Station)

1994
ochre, charcoal & clay with acrylic binders on stretched hand-primed Belgian linen
90x120cm
FW14431

Brumby Creek emerges from its birthplace in the ‘top country’ and runs across black-soil plains to Pelican water hole.

Freddie depicts the large billabong, bottom left, which retains good water for most of the mustering season, long after the rest of the creek has dried up.

Pelicans from the nearby Lower Ord River flock there for the easy pickings in the shallow waters. Adjacent, middle, are Bloodwood Yards, where the branding of the freshly mustered stock would take place.
