Vincent Serico: Some People are Stories to Tour Queensland - Media Release

Vincent Serico: Some people are stories has received Playing Queensland touring funding through Arts Queensland and will be touring throughout regional Queensland in partnership between FireWorks Gallery and Museums and Galleries Queensland (M&G QLD).

Vincent’s art aims to acknowledge Aboriginal existence in a way that gives comfort, while recognising past pain, sorrow, longing and loss, and leaving a trace of them in the hearts of others. Vincent always wanted to tour his work, he wanted to share his stories to the widest possible audience.

Some people are stories includes; an exquisite limited edition, bound folio; 20 framed print reproductions featured in the folio; and is accompanied by seven original paintings. This is the first major touring exhibition of Vincent Serico’s work since his death in 2008.

About the tour, FireWorks Gallery Director Michael Eather comments, “Vincent Serico was perhaps one of Queensland’s greatest history painters. His life’s experiences straddled great changes and diverse worlds; the old and new… both black and white. The Some People are Stories print folio exposes a deep well of Vincent’s imagery, his vision and his ‘history tales’. Here, they all brought back to a digestible scale. The touring exhibition showcases this magnificent folio alongside key original works that will no doubt broaden the audiences appreciation of this important artist. Vincent always dreamed of this and his last wish has come true.”
