Lilly
Kelly Napangardi is a senior artist of the Mt Liebig
community near Haasts Bluff in the Northern Territory - approximately
325 kilometres north-west of Alice Springs. Lilly usually paints
drifting impressions of her country, especially the sand hills
(tali) adjacent to Kintore. Her distinctive patterning often references
the winds and the desert environment after rain. Lilly also speaks
about the seasonal changes and the crucial waterholes in this
sandy landscape. Lilly employs a fine textured painting style
often with microcosmic detail. The minimalist effect and ephemeral
nature of these repetitious designs have enthused many collectors
and curators, with notable works entering various public and private
collections. In 2006 she was named in the Top 50 artists in the
arts journal Australian Art Collector. |
